Brussel sprout season is my FAVORITE time of the year & these air-fried brussel sprouts have all the delicious flavors of deep-fried, crispy, caramelized brussel sprouts without any of the excessive oils!
I don't know how but brussel sprouts managed to get a bad reputation for so many people.
The reactions from some of you when I posted these on my story made me laugh, but also encouraged me at the same time! Overall, there was a handful of you that said that brussel sprouts were something you would never eat, but that these made you inclined to try them (yay!).
When cooking brussel sprouts there are a few critical tips that I always use:
Cut in half and trim the stems to make for easy eating
Use a sweet sugar or syrup to help with caramelization- I like to swap between maple syrup, honey, & brown sugar!
Reserve some seasoning sauce or glaze to toss on after they're done baking or frying, this created that delicious & addictive caramelized coating
My Recipe highlights:
Ready to serve in only 20 minutes makes this dish the perfect staple veggie dish for busy nights, meal prepping, or entertaining!
These are delicious when served fresh out of the air fryer or when allowed to cool to room temperature
A healthier alternative to classic deep-fried brussel sprouts with JUST AS MUCH crunch & flavor!
Versatile & great for trying with a variety of fresh vegetables (zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, squash, etc.)
Sesame & Miso Glaze:
4 cloves garlic finely grated
2 tbsp melted bacon fat (To make vegan & vegetarian simple opt for olive or avocado oil!)
2 tsp toasted sesame oil
1 tsp raw honey
1/2 tsp chili flakes
1 tsp sweet white miso
& Sea salt + pepper to taste
1/2 white onion sliced
1 lb brussel sprouts, washed, halved with ends trimmed
1 tbsp olive oil
Toss brussel sprouts & onion with olive oil, sea salt & pepper
Air fry at 375 for 15 minutes, pausing to toss 1-2 times throughout
Pause & pour half of the sesame miso glaze over the brussel sprouts, stirring to cover
Air fry for another 5 minutes until caramelized & golden brown
When done toss in the remaining sesame & miso glaze, stirring to combine
Serve & enjoy!
Fun variations:
Top with more toasted sesame seeds & sriracha sauce
Top with crispy bacon for an added salty bite
For all my Asian food lovers top with bonito dried fish flakes for a boost of umami!
Top with crumbled goat cheese or feta
